Have you been wanting to start making green smoothies to add more GOOD FOOD to your diet?
Here is a simple recipe for a starter smoothie that includes lots of vegetables that have detoxifying properties.
What you will need is a high-speed blender, such as a Vitamix. While you can use a regular kitchen blender, the consistency will not be as smooth and palatable as with a high-speed blender. And often - especially when dealing with finicky eaters and children - it is more the consistency (and not the taste) of the smoothie that determines success!
Start with this base recipe, then venture into adding more and different kinds of vegetables.
SIMPLE DETOX GREEN SMOOTHIE
Yields: 4 servings
3-4 stalks organic celery
2 organic cucumbers
2-3 stalks organic kale
1 cup organic spinach (fresh or frozen)
1 whole organic lemon (can be frozen)
1 organic apple
1 organic pear
1 organic carrot
1/2 bunch organic parsley
1/2 bunch organic cilantro
Optional add-ins: chia seeds, hemp seeds, 1-2 Tablespoons melted virgin coconut oil
Filtered water to fill up to 1/3rd of blender
1) Wash and chop all ingredients
2) Add to high speed blender and blend on high until consistency is smooth
3) Taste and adjust: add another lemon or an orange if too "green" or a 1/2 banana to sweeten.
To make a RED detox smoothie:
Add 1-2 raw or cooked beets and 1/2 -1 cup frozen berries
