Oh, the banana ripening conundrum! Some like it ripe, some like it greener...
My kids like it right in-between, which means, we get the bananas slightly green and have a 1-2 day window to eat them before they start having brown spots on them. As soon as the spots appear, they refuse to eat them.
This presents the almost impossible task of timing the purchase of bananas in a way that maximizes the window of "no longer green, not...

It is Friday night of a long week (which week is not long, really?) and it is cold in "currently-not-so-sunny' Florida...record cold. Really? I am thinking that I need a refund after moving here. But that is another story.
On an evening like this, I really need to keep it simple. Simple is good. Easy is preferred. Fast is a bonus. Anything that goes with my "just-throw-it-all-together-and-stir" mantra is good.
So here is a great...

Here is a simple recipe for a starter smoothie that includes lots of vegetables that have detoxifying properties.
What you will need is a high-speed blender, such as a Vitamix. While you can use a regular kitchen blender, the consistency will not be as smooth and palatable as with a high-speed blender. And often - especially when dealing...

Want to know my secret to simple cooking? Use as few ingredients as possible! Sometimes I make a game of it: challenging myself to "dumb down" a recipe to the very core basics without compromising flavor or nutrition.
Actually, I always try to increase the nutrition profile of any meal, mainly by using wholesome equivalents of the ingredients or often smart substitutions. It's more art than science to me, but I am a geek when i...

I get so many questions from people about healthy breakfast options. It seems that most people struggle most with breakfast as the most difficult one when transitioning to clean and whole food eating.
My OATMEAL SOUFFLÉ is another simple recipe that is a nice spin on traditional oatmeal as its healthy fat and protein content is boosted but the added eggs, seeds and coconut oil.
In general, we have been made to believe that...

Today, I was in the mood for something chocolate-y....Yet still healthy and nourishing....I know, those words almost seem contradictory....how can we make something with chocolate healthy?
Well, as I looked in the fridge for inspiration, I found some cooked beets I picked up from Costco the other day. I buy their organic and vacuum-sealed "I Love Beets" cooked beets to add to salads and just eat as a snack. Beets are amazing fo...

This recipe just developed on its own over time. I started out with a basic chicken salad recipe and wanted to add in more of the healthy fats and protein. With the addition of avocado, almonds, hemp and chia seeds, this salad is boosted in nutrients with no processed ingredients or added sugar!
The best part is that you can add in or leave out any ingredient you do not have on hand and just “wing it”.
