Creamy Stovetop Beef Ragout {GF, Grain Free, DF option} with Rice or Pasta

I can't enough of fall flavors. Stews, hearty soups and creamy ragouts. This one is another beef variation that can easily be modified a million ways to your taste and that of your family. This is an easy stovetop version for a quick, yet healthy and nourishing dinner.

CREAMY STOVETOP BEEF RAGOUT WITH RICE OR PASTA (GF, GRAIN-FREE, DF OPTION)

Ingredients:

1 small yellow onion, diced

2 TBSP butter or lard

1 TBSP gluten free flour (amaranth, arrowroot, tapioca, GF all-purpose)

1.5 cups fresh or frozen green peas

Sea salt and cracked pepper to taste

For serving: 4 cups prepared rice OR 1 box chickpea rotini or your pasta of choice

Preparation:

  1. Heat butter/lard in a large skillet on medium heat and sauté diced onions until softened, glassy.

  2. Add diced steak or steak strips and cook for about 10 minutes.

  3. Add peas, cover with lid and and cook for another 5 minutes on low heat.

  4. Using a small whisk, mix the flour into the cream or half and half and pour over steak. Reduce heat to low and stir until sauce thickens and meat is cooked through.

My PRO tip?

You can use Riverbend Ranch's sliced or diced steak or steak strips in the recipe. Not only is it conveniently pre-sliced / pre-diced, but also the highest quality grass-fed steak you can find, delivered straight to your door in a monthly or bi-monthly beef subscription through the Wellness box! No need to get messy trying to cut up the meat and you can customize the box each month to your family's needs. How convenient is that?

What do you need to know about beef, in general? Be very discerning when it comes to selecting your beef. Here are some things to consider

  • type of cut - USDA prime or high choice. I try to never go below these top two qualities.

  • use of antibiotics and/or hormones - I look for sources that NEVER use these

  • location raised - I prefer USA raised on USA-owned farms

  • location processed - I prefer USA processed

  • diet of animals - grass-fed, grass finished is my choice

  • price - is a determining factor for me

If you would like to try Riverbend Ranch's steaks and give the subscription box a try (no risk, free cancellation any time), send me and email and I will get you set up!

Stay happy and healthy,

Eva
